how *not* to market to your customers

Added by Joshua McGinnis on April 9th, 2009, filed under Uncategorized

so the other day, i go to check the mail and i get this little gem from hsbc owned orchard bank:

lamecheck

now this isn’t the first time they tried this, but i figured if they’re going to keep trying to convert scam me into they’re CompleteHome product, i might as well have some fun with it.

so let’s take this check and analyze it for a second in order to learn how we should not market to our customers.

ok. here we go:

  • don’t use checks with fine print as a contract for signing up for a service, it’s deceptive
  • if you are going to use a check, at least make it for more than $4.25

i can’t even begin to tell you how bad the offer is to begin with. they want you to PAY for the right to get 2% cash back on purchases made with the card.

so why do i even carry this card again?

lame.
